Update: Nook vs Kindle

I have been a long-time Nook owner: I have a first-generation Nook which I got for my birthday back in 2009.  I have always loved it and could not imagine switching to another brand.

But, I got a Kindle Paperwhite for Christmas and I'm so in love with it (the light weight! the backlight!  the ease of use! the smart cover!) that I cannot imagine ever picking my Nook up again.  I actually have two new releases that I pre-ordered months ago, waiting on my Nook to be read, and I can't put my Kindle down for long enough to read them.  Even though they are books I really want to read!

Do you have an e-reader?  Which one do you have?  Do you love it or hate it, and why?

  1. This is interesting. I actually got a Nook HD for Christmas and am really enjoying it but I've always wondered about the difference. If my husband was a reader, I'd totally get him the Kindle so we could find out!

    1. Amber, I never thought I'd switch camps but I am so in love with my Kindle! My husband is a reader and also had a 1G Nook. He also got a Kindle Paperwhite for Christmas and loves his too. I have noticed him reading much more lately.

  2. I have a Nook Simple Touch and absolutely love it! I don't want any other features, because I get distracted by the internet too easily, LOL.

    1. Sharon I feel the same way. I have an iPad for getting online, all I need from an ereader is a way to read. That is why I asked for the Kindle Paperwhite instead of the Kindle Fire.

  3. I use to be a Kindle girl. Now I use the Kindle app from my iPod. I adore eReading. Especially with a baby.

    1. Yes, the only time I can read a hard copy is when Kaitlyn is asleep! And then I better make sure to put it up before Kaitlyn can get her hands on it and rip it up!

  4. I got the Kindle without ever trying it. My mother-in-law gave it to me after I put it on my Christmas list. It was a total gamble but I really wanted an e-reader that was back-lit. And so far that is my favorite thing about the Kindle Paperwhite: the ability to read in a dark room without a book light!

  5. I started out as a Kindle girl (Kindle Keyboard, then Kindle fire). I do have the Nook Simple Glowlight also, but for reading, my favorite would still have to be the Kindle Keyboard. I do like the new Kindle Fire for internet & games.

  6. Yay on getting a Kindle! Glad you like it. You'll find more deals and freebies for Kindle books (vs. Nook books). Welcome to the Kindle club :)

  7. I have a Kindle Fire that I won in November 2012 and I was eager to read my first novel on an e-reader. and I did but I have not read anything else on it since. I like it but I still like a physical book.

  8. I originally got the Nook Color and loves it but I got a Kindle a year later as a gift and I have been hooked since I picked it up. I now want a Kindle Fire HD and am looking for and app to convert my Nook books so i can put them on my Kindle.
