In Case of Emergency...

I've been going through the most trying time of my life in the past year, dealing with health issues that threaten to overwhelm me.  One day last week, when I was feeling particularly low, I broke out one of my "ICE" books.  Do you know what those are?  They are books I know I'll love, that I keep just for emergencies.

Sometimes I need to know I'll love a book and not have to try to like it, like I do with so many review requests.  Usually my ICE books are series books, written by authors I love, and I'm almost never disappointed by them (except for Mockingjay, as you well know).

Last week, my ICE book was the latest Bloodlines novel, The Indigo Spell.  Except the funny thing is, just having that book out, knowing I could start reading it at any time, was enough for me.  Just looking at the cover makes me feel better.  That's a powerful thing---a book that makes me feel better before I even start reading it!

Do you have any 'In Case of Emergency' books?  If so, what are they?

  1. Ashley, it was something I did unconsciously, saving what I knew would be a good book for a desperate time. I now do it on purpose and it really helps me during trying times!

  2. I have the True Blood series, Harry Potter and Twilight for that. I know them so well and they bring up so great memories. They may not be new books, and i may know the story, but fleeing into them just makes me feel so much better.

    1. Yes, exactly! I do that too but new books seem to give me the most happiness.

  3. Oooh, I could use some ICE books myself. Sorry to hear about the health issues. I'm in the same sort of boat. I've been able to get lost in TV shows recently though. I do marathons on Netflix of series with good buzz that I never watched before or old favorites. Breaking Bad, Walking Dead, Lost...they've been getting me through. Hang in there!

I'm sorry to hear about your health issues too. Don't they just stink?
I do that with Netflix too and it helps a lot!
Try the ICE books, they really provide a lot of comfort and motivation to me!
