Book Review: Enders (Starters #2) by Lissa Price

Summary:
With the Prime Destinations body bank destroyed, Callie no longer has to rent herself out to creepy Enders. But Enders can still get inside her mind and make her do things she doesn't want to do. Like hurt someone she loves. Having the chip removed could save Callie's life - but it could also silence the voice in her head that might belong to her father. Callie has flashes of her ex-renter Helena's memories, too ...and the Old Man is back, filling her with fear. Who is real and who is masquerading in a teen body? This is the thrilling sequel to Starters.

Review:
I loved Starters, and Enders was even better.  It feels like I've been waiting forever to read more of Callie's story, and (insert shameless humble bragging) I was so excited to get this book a few weeks early.  I read Starters as an ARC and so I had an extra long wait between books.  Although, I would like to note that this series would be best enjoyed reading the books back-to-back, since there are so many small details and a fairly large cast of characters in Price's world.

The premise of older adults (Enders) "renting" young adults' bodies (Starters) is so unique, and believable.  The technology behind the body renting was well thought-out.  Price's imagery is great, and the book was full of suspense.  I was so surprised at The Old Man's true identity.  I love those kinds of surprises.

Lissa Price's writing style is concise.  I love that!  Her writing is not spare, but rather efficient.  There are no superfluous words, scenes, or characters.  I really appreciate that in an author.  I love reading books where each page is full of action and every interaction serves to further the plot development.

My one complaint about Enders was that the book felt a little jumpy at times.  The plot moved so fast that sometimes I almost had trouble keeping up.  Again, I really wish I'd re-read Starters before reading Enders.  I think I would have had fewer "say what" moments and a better flow to my reading experience.

This series has a great futuristic plot, a touching family arc and a love story to boot.  I highly recommend it!

  1. I need to go buy this book. I read Starters when it first came out, and I remember really enjoying it, but my mind is a little fuzzy on everything that happened since that seems like forever ago! I'm really glad you enjoyed Enders. I hope I enjoy it just as much! :)

  3. This was an enjoyable sequel to read. The story was well paced and kept me interested until the last page. In this book we are introduced a new main character - Hyden.
