Review:
I've never met Aaron or Peter but I know that they must have been stalking me when they wrote Creepy Carrots, and really it's cool. Maybe I am famous in a small town. Why stalk Nat? Well the evidence is all there:
  1. I am an unapologetic Halloween nut. I have pumpkins on my porch no later than September 1st.
  2. I am a dietitian and can't help but buy all books food related. Tthey knew I would be an easy sell by just adding the word "carrot" in the title. You wouldn't believe the number of adults I have worked with that really believe carrots are the scariest vegetable of all time.
  3. My middle child's name is Jasper! He is nearly un"spook"able and has the best poker face... ever... so when this book made him crack a smile, I knew we had a winner.
We absolutely love Creepy Carrots! It is fun satire about a vegetable and a paranoid rabbit, or so we think. The monochromatic feel of the illustrations was fun and the boys really liked the spooked expressions of Jasper Rabbit. I loved the monster carrots and their mean little eyebrows.

The twist.
The twist at the end was reminiscent of a RL Stine twist but not one that will give your kids nightmares, it was more of an RL Stine hyped up on pixie sticks kind of twist.

This is a really fun read-aloud book and can be read simply for Halloween fun or can be used when introducing vegetables, specifically carrots (duh). It's also extra special if you have a kid named Jasper.

PS. I just ordered the next Jasper Rabbit book, Creepy Pair of Underwear. Fun fact about my Jasper, he is very particular about his underwear. Hmmm, maybe it's my kid that is famous and inspires book plots. I can accept that. Here's to Jasper's, underwear and all things creepy!
